Scrum Around the World: Manchester

I trained in Manchester a few weeks ago. It was small - only three people - but we were really able to dig down into some issues and have lengthy discussions about Scrum and their particular organization. It was a great class!

One of the exercises that we run in class is called the Ball Point Game. This game is all about creating a Ball Point Delivery process, running the process and delivering increasingly more Ball Points by becoming more efficient through a series of iterations. Normally, there are at least 15-25 people running this game, and since this particular group numbered so few, they made an interesting twist to one of the rules.

Watch how they establish the rhythm, lose rhythm around 01:30, 00:30 and again at 00:16. Very simple exercise, but it begs the question: when we're interrupted in our work by forces outside the team, how does that impact the rest of our day? How does that impact our goals? How easy or difficult is it to switch contexts back to what we were working on?
